NDA – National Defence Academy

The NDA exam is a gateway for candidates aspiring to join the Army, Navy, and Air Force wings of the National Defence Academy. It consists of two parts: a written test and an SSB interview. The written test comprises Mathematics and General Ability Test (GAT), with a total duration of 5 hours and a maximum of 900 marks. Mathematics involves 120 questions with a marking scheme of +2.5 marks for correct answers and -0.83 marks for wrong ones. GAT includes English and General Knowledge sections, totaling 150 questions for 600 marks.

CDS – Combined Defence Services

CDS is conducted for entry into the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, and Officers’ Training Academy. It consists of English, General Knowledge, and Mathematics (for IMA, INA, AFA) or English and General Knowledge (for OTA). The exam is conducted offline with multiple-choice questions, and each paper is of 2 hours duration. There is a negative marking of 1/3rd for incorrect answers.

AFCAT – Air Force Common Admission Test

AFCAT is conducted by the Indian Air Force for Short Service Commission in Flying Branch and Permanent Commission/Short Service Commission in Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical) Branches. It includes sections on General Awareness, Verbal Ability in English, Numerical Ability, and Reasoning, totaling 100 questions for 300 marks. Additionally, there is an Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT) for technical branches.
